Shimla
Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and a major travel hill station in India. Situated in the northwest Himalayas, Shimla is one of the most popular hill stations in India. It is also know as "Queen of Hills" . Shimla is also an important administrative centre. It has been variously described as the Indian Capua, Mount Olympus and the Abode of the Little Tin Gods. At the other end is Sir Edward Lutyen’s (the architect of New Delhi) snooty remark – "If I had been told it had all been built by monkeys, I would have said, what wonderful monkeys, they must be shot in case they do it again."!! Shimla and attention have always courted each other.
Christ Church
Chirst Church - The most prominent building on the Mall is the yellow Christ Church, reputed to be the second oldest church in northern India. It was designed by Colonel JT Boileau in 1844, but consecrated only after 1857. The clock was donated by Colonel Dumbleton in 1860, and the porch added in 1873. In Shimla’s 75 years of reigning as summer capital, a long line of officials and other notables of the Raj came to the church for their Sunday prayers. More than half a century has slipped by since the last Viceroy of India has prayed here, but nothing much seems to have changed in Christ Church. It still has those lovely stained glass windows for which it is so famed. Around the chancel window used to be a beautiful fresco designed by Rudyard Kipling’s father, Lockwood Kipling, who was the principal of Mayo School of Art in Lahore.
The Vice Regal Lodge
On the Observatory Hills is located the Viceregal Lodge. Also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, it was formerly the residence of the British Viceroy Lord Dufferin, was the venue for many important decisions, which changed the fate of the sub-continent.
Naldehra
The rolling greens of Naldehra in Himachal Pradesh are par for the oldest golf course in India. Tall deodars flank the links making Naldehra a wonderful sports venue in the midst of natural beauty. The idea of laying a golf course on the slopes of an enormous glade took root.
Kufri
Kufri is one of the oldest ski resorts in Himachal Pradesh. Its attraction lies in the breathtaking vistas and ski slopes. Covered with soft snow during the winter months. Summer months offer ample opportunities for hiking, trekking, horse-riding and tobogganing.
Chail
Chail- The former ’summer capital’ of Patiala. Chail is 43-km from Shimla and dwelling in the midst of a lush green setting. At 2,250m, it has the world’s highest cricket pitch and a polo ground. Chail is hiker’s paradise. The area is very peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of Shimla. 3 kms from the city centre is the world’s highest Cricket ground. Well-kept and well maintained the ground is surrounded by huge trees of deodar and pine.
Army Heritage Museum
The museum is about 3 Km from the main city, Shimla. It is situated at Annadale Helipad Ground (Lower Kaithu). This Museum describing the history of Indian Army. This is open for the general public on all the day except Monday
Taradevi Temple
Tara Devi Temple is a very famous tourist attraction. Its about 20 Km. from Shimla towards Kalka and bifurcate from Shoghi. Temple is situated at the top of a hill from where you can view the entir Shimla. The lush green environs surrounding give a very peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The history of this temple is about 250 years back. It is said that Godess Tara was brought all the way from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh.
Sankat Mochan Temple
One of the most popular attraction of Shimla. Its about 4 Km. from Shimla. Temple is situated on Kalka-Shimla NH-22. Around 1950, Baba Neeb Karoriji Maharaj came to beautiful place and discovered the perfect place for meditation. And finally in June 1966, Baba Neeb Karoriji Maharaj desire of having a temple build over here that was dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
