Kinnaur
Located on the Indo tibetan border, surrounded by Tibet to the east, Garhwal Himalyan to the south. About 200 km from Shimla strikingly beautiful district of Kinnaur where the the river Satluj carved deep gorges through the the high mountains.
The Satluj river which rises on the southern slopes of Kailash mountain near Mansarover in Tibet flows through the Kinnaur valley. Very few rainfall and the desolate countryside can by compared to that of the Leh and Ladakh region. Almost every village has a gompa or a temple. The people of Kinnaur are very honest and simple. The od Hindustan - Tibet road which passes through the Kinnaur valley. Passing through the ancient villages of Wngtu, Sarhan, Pangi, Puh and Sungra located along the bank of river Satluj the road finaly enters Tibet at Shipki La Pass.
Kalpa
Kalpa is a small town located in the Sutlej River Valley, above Recong Peo in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, in the Indian Himalaya. Inhabited by Kinnauri people and famous for its apple orchards. Apples are a major cash-crop for the region. The local inhabitants follow a syncretism of Hinduism and Buddhism, and many temples in Kalpa are dedicated to both Hindu and Buddhist gods & goddesses.
Nako Lake
Nako Lake is a high altitude lake in the Pooh sub-division of district Kinnaur. It forms part of the boundary of Nako village and seems that the village is half buried in the lakes border. It is about 3,662 metres (12,010 ft) above sea level. The lake is surrounded by willow and poplar trees. Near the lake there are four Buddhist temples. Near this place there is a footlike impression ascribed to the saint Padmasambhava.And some miles away there is a village called TASHIGANG around this village there are several cave where it is believe that Guru Padmasambhava meditated and gave discourse to followers. There is a waterfall nearby which has snow water falling like a river of milk. Legend says that it is a heavenly realm of fairies.In one of the cave you can still able to see the live footprints of these fairies or other demigods. It is a sacred place for the people of these valley.Followers come from as far a place as Ladhak and spiti valley.
Sangla Valley
This valley starts 57 km short of Kalpa which has been named after a beautiful & populous village Sangla. Sangla is situated on the right bank of Baspa river 17 kms. from Karcham. Journey from Karcham onwards is enjoyable and adventurous throughout the valley. The natural scenery all around and the eternal snow view are picturesque and charming. It is also known as Baspa Valley since Baspa river flows through this area. This is the most charming valley in the entire District of Kinnaur. A temple dedicated to Nages god is worth a visit & other places are Sapni, Rackchham, Kilba, Kamru Fort which can also be visited. There are post offices, banks, rest houses for the convenience of the visitors.
